Masterclass Overview

The Educator masterclass, facilitated by OurFutures, focuses on upskilling educators in evidence-based prevention approaches to address the rising challenges of vaping, alcohol and other drug use among high school students.

Grounded in current research from the Matilda Centre including findings from the OurFutures program published in The Lancet Public Health and aligned with national curriculum frameworks, the session is designed to be relevant, research-informed,  and immediately applicable in the classroom.

Educators will leave better informed, more confident, and equipped with strategies and resources to support student wellbeing in real-world school contexts.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

✔ Understand: Build confidence and understanding of the key issues facing young people in Australian schools
✔ Investigate: Look inside the challenge, understand ‘the why’ and explore the solutions
✔ Interact: Apply key frameworks such as harm minimisation and social influence theory
✔ Explore: Effective prevention, be confident with facts, know when to hand over

Grounded in research from The Matilda Centre, University of Sydney and aligned with national curriculum frameworks, the session is designed to be:

✔ Research-informed
✔ Immediately applicable in the classroom
✔ Be the source of truth for students
✔ Counts towards 60 mins of PD
